Our September class is almost here! If you have enrolled at Healing Hands School of Massage, we welcome you! You're about to begin an exciting journey toward a rewarding career in massage therapy. It's completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness before your first day. After all, you're starting something new, meeting new classmates, and learning skills you can use in your future.

We want you to know that you're not alone. Every massage therapist started exactly where you are now.

To help you feel more prepared, we've put together a guide on what you can expect during your first 30 days at our school. Knowing what's ahead can ease those first-day jitters and help you walk into class with confidence.

First Up: Learning the Basics

During your first month, you'll build the foundation for everything you'll learn throughout the rest of the program. While many people imagine jumping right into hands-on massage, these first few weeks are all about understanding the "why" behind the profession. The knowledge you gain now will make it much easier to learn anatomy, physiology, pathology, and hands-on massage techniques later in the program.

Here are a few of the main topics you'll cover:

1. The History of Massage Therapy

You'll learn how massage therapy has evolved over thousands of years and why it continues to be an important part of the health and wellness industry today. Understanding the profession's history helps you appreciate the role massage therapists play in improving people's quality of life and how the profession has grown into the respected field it is at present.

2. The Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is so much more than relaxation.

During the first 30 days, we will teach you about the benefits of massage therapy and how it can support both physical and mental well-being.

You'll also begin learning when massage is appropriate, when modifications may be needed, and when massage should be avoided to ensure every client's safety.

3. Medical Terminology

Don't worry if you've never studied medical terms before. Many students are new to this, and we'll guide you every step of the way.

You'll become familiar with the language used throughout the healthcare field, including anatomical terms, body systems, and common medical vocabulary. Learning these terms early will make future classes, such as anatomy and physiology, much easier to understand.

4. Learning How to Answer Massage Exam Questions

One thing that surprises many students is that we begin preparing you for your licensing exam right away. We will help students learn to read exam questions carefully, identify key keywords, think critically, and choose the best answer rather than relying on memorization alone. Developing these skills early helps build confidence and makes exam preparation much less overwhelming later in the program.

Want to Get a Head Start?

If you're eager to prepare before classes begin, here are a few simple things you can do:

• Read about the history of massage therapy.

• Review basic anatomy and common medical terms.

• Learn about the many ways massage therapy benefits physical and mental well-being.

A great place to start is the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) article, "Brush Up on the History of the Massage Therapy Profession." It provides a helpful overview of how massage therapy has evolved into the respected profession it is today.

Don't worry if you haven't had a chance to do any of these yet. That's exactly what we're here for! Your instructors will guide you through each lesson, answer your questions, and support you every step of the way.

Learning in a Supportive Environment

One of the best parts of attending Healing Hands School of Massage is that you'll learn much more than massage techniques.

Our goal is to help you develop not only the hands-on skills needed to perform a massage, but also the knowledge and understanding to provide every client with a safe, effective, and personalized session. As you progress through the program, you'll learn how to assess each client's unique needs and use your skills to provide the best care possible.

Learning in a supportive, interactive environment allows students to build confidence, ask questions, and connect classroom knowledge to real-life situations they'll encounter in their future careers.

Your Future Starts Here

The first 30 days may feel like a lot of new information, but remember that every massage therapist started exactly where you are today. Every lesson is designed to build your confidence and prepare you for the next step in your education.

Before you know it, you'll be moving from the classroom into hands-on practice, developing your massage techniques, and working toward becoming a licensed massage therapist.

We are so excited to welcome our September class and can't wait to watch each of you grow into knowledgeable, compassionate, and skilled massage therapists. Your future starts here, and we're honored to be part of it.
